Dismissed at 12:00, Report cards handed out, Assembly starting at 10:30 HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!!!! Ok well this is the last full week together. We've almost made it. I will keep this one short and sweet.
Today (Monday) we are going to Brock Pool from 11:00-2:00 and then walking back to the school. Hopefully we don't get hailed on! Tuesday is the Talent Show in the afternoon. I think there are a few kids in here who are performing so we will attend the assembly. This is also the last day I require kids to have agendas here. Wednesday is the trip to the Waterslides. We are leaving on the bus at 8:15 and will not wait for anyone who is late. Please please please make sure that all students make it to school by 8:00 at the latest. We are aiming to leave Vernon at 2:30 so we should be back by 4:00 give or take a few minutes. Thursday - a normal day. honest.... Friday - Our last Friday together..... We are trying to pull together the movie for next Monday. Hopefully you will see the permission slip today. We would go for a movie start of 12:30 and be back by 2:30. Fingers crossed that the permission slip isn't a wet mess by the time you see it. If you require another one, just send me an e-mail (see address below). UPDATE: PERMISSION SLIP WENT HOME MONDAY. COST IS $7.00. WE ARE NOT PRE-ORDERING ANY SNACKS AS THE LINE UPS WILL BE TOO LONG. WE WILL EAT LUNCH RIGHT BEFORE WE GO. As always, you can reach me at [email protected] Only 13.5 days left as of Monday. Wow! We are packing a lot of stuff into these last days (just the thought makes me tired!).
In HACE we are carrying on with our puberty unit. We have been taking a few notes and will have a short quiz probably at the end of next week. In L.A. we have been focusing on poetry. It seems like we are losing time fast but this week we will look at diamante and, hopefully, haiku. In math we are doing review (in fact that will continue until the end of the year). For science we are continuing on with Diversity of Life. This week, making onion cell slides. Next week, a microscope quiz and info on classifying plants and animals. In P.E. we are having the TRU sports camp people here on Wednesday so we will have gym 3 times this week (Mon, Wed, Thurs). In Fine Arts we are still working on reading basic music and playing the boomwhackers. We have a bunch of field trips coming up. This week we will be walking over to Brock on Friday to see a Peanuts (comic strip) drama presentation (permission slip home Monday). Next week we go swimming on the Monday (leaving the school at about 11:00 and leaving Brock Rec Centre just after 2:00). Then on Wednesday is our new Waterslides Day (leaving the school at 8:15 and coming back about 4:00ish). The last week we are trying to arrange a movie day. Not sure yet if it will work but we will keep you posted. For those who have been asking me....we have our Brock visits on Wednesday, June 26 (for grade 6s only). Let's take a look at this week: Monday, June 10 - P.E., Parent Tea in the afternoon Tuesday, June 11 - Wednesday, June 12 - TRU sports camps here Thursday, June 13 - P.E. Friday, June 14 - Drama presentation over at Brock As always, if you need to reach me, you can find me at [email protected]...... The last month of school for 2012-2013. Funny how this month always seems to go by so fast. We have quite a bit happening so let me get through the main points quickly.
In L.A. we are focusing on poetry for this last month. We have finished our novel study (the final paperwork for it is due Tuesday). In math we will now begin a review of some of the concepts we have already covered. For Science we are doing 'diversity of life' (as part of this unit, I have borrowed a set of microscopes from Brock). In Fine Arts we are learning how to play a song with the boomwhackers. The big one is HACE. We are starting our puberty unit. Please be aware that there is a big distinction made between sexual development (which we will be talking about in great detail) and sexual activity (which we will NOT be talking about in great detail). I know this is a difficult topic for parents to broach with their kids but be aware they may have questions or make comments based on what we are learning. I am sticking to the curriculum which states that we are to teach the 'physical, social and emotional changes associated with puberty'. While often an uncomfortable topic, I try hard to make the discussions open and honest. If you have any concerns, comments, or questions, please feel free to contact me. We have a book fair in the library this week. It will be set up on Monday and then run Tues, Wed and Thurs. We have a few upcoming field trips. This Friday (at no cost to you) we are headed to Bert Edwards for a 'First Nations Cultural Day'. You will have received a permission slip on white paper. Please note that even though that slip said that lunch would be provided.....things have changed and lunch will NOT be provided. I have told the kids that I do not want them to bring any electronic gadgets over there as there will be 500 students from all of the north shore schools on site. I will send home a map that the kids can bring with them as to what stations we are going to. In order for Parkcrest kids to find each other, we have been asked to wear blue. It did not specify what shade of blue so anything goes... On June 14, we are going to the Vernon Waterslides. That trip does cost $10 as the PAC picked up the cost of the buses (thank you PAC) and the school is picking up the extra admission fee (the actual admission fee was $10.50). Most of you have turned in that permission slip and money so I thank you. PLEASE NOTE WE ARE LEAVING THE SCHOOL AT 8:15 THAT MORNING....WE WILL NOT WAIT FOR LATE STUDENTS...THE BUS WILL LEAVE WITHOUT THEM. We will not be back until about 4:00. (leaving the waterslides at about 2:30). On June 17, we will be walking over to Brock Pool to have a swim time from 12:30-1:30. We will walk back to school to be dismissed. That permission slip should be coming home this week. It is no cost to you. For both of these water activites, bikinis are not allowed. If that is the only bathing suit that your daughter owns, they must bring a tank top to go over the top of it. Tankinis are just fine. The last field trip of the year hasn't been organized yet. We are trying to go to a movie before the end of the year. Details hopefully to follow. For those of you who are wondering.....Brock Middle School tours for the grade 6s are on June 26 this year. We will walk over at recess and be back by lunch. Let's take a look at this week: Monday, June 3 - P.E. Tuesday, June 4 - (book fair in library) Wednesday, June 5 - (book fair in library) Thursday, June 6 - P.E. (book fair in library) Friday, June 7 - First Nations Cultural Day at B.E.S.T.
