Well we've made it to Christmas holidays.......Yep...this is it. The last week before the 2 week break. Before you know it we'll be halfway through the year! The Christmas concert was fantastic and I want to thank all the kids for doing such an excellent job. Even though it was a long 2 days.....we made it just fine. This week I will definitely try to build in lots of Christmas fun in addition to still doing some work (yes we do have to do some work this week)...
In L.A. we finally finished our novel, "Sammy Keyes and the Skeleton Man" and we'll start our new novel in January. In Math we are looking at some problem solving using factors and multiples. We have finished our topic in Science (electricity) and we'll be starting a new topic in the new year. All of their science tests have been marked and sent home for signature. In HACE we continue on with decision making and the factors that influence that process. Ask your child about 'TenMarks', an online math practice program that is really challenging but that they can access from anywhere. They can access it from the 'math' tab up above (they need to know their username though. Their password is exactly the same as their username). We get to have P.E. again this week. Yay! We'll do some games this week before starting basketball in January. Our milk program is done for this year (the kids have done an amazing job delivering each week) and for those of you that are wondering.....we'll send home notices in the new year and the milk program will start up again. We have Secret Santa this week (again, there is no pressure whatsoever to participate....if any parent objects, please let me know asap). We always have a few who choose not to participate and that is absolutely okay. I have asked the kids to make sure their gift is here by Wednesday at the latest and we'll do the exchange on Thursday. Let's take a look at this week: Monday, December 13th - P.E. Tuesday, December 14th - P.E. Wednesday, December 15th - Last day to bring in Secret Santa gifts Thursday, December 16th - P.E., Secret Santa Exchange Friday, December 17th - Last day before Christmas Break! As always, you can reach me at [email protected] School starts up again on Tuesday, January 4th. Have an amazing holiday and we'll see you in 2011!! Well this is it! The big Christmas concert week. Amidst all the 'hustle and bustle' of Christmas concert rehearsals etc, it is unfortunate timing that I am away Tuesday and Wednesday morning at a district workshop. I will be back in the afternoons. I can't believe we only have this week and next before Christmas break. I still haven't bought a thing! Yikes!
As far as subjects go, our schedule has been thrown out the window for the last little while and, while I am desperately trying to hold on to a few academic subjects, it has been a challenge to have us all in the room at the same time. Social Studies and Science have been wrapped up until the new year (those are the two subjects that Mrs. Erichuk and I switch classes for and the schedules have just been too hectic). We will be doing a lot of Fine Arts over the last few days of 2010 but I am also trying to push on with Math, Reading, Writing and HACE. We are just finishing with prime/composite numbers and will be doing factor trees in Math. Our novel is just about done and it is getting harder to put it down as it comes to a close. In Writing we have been looking at putting 'voice' into what we write to make a piece of work uniquely ours. For HACE we are still talking about decision making (specifically what choices are available, who or what influences how we make a decision and the possible outcomes). Don't forget about Secret Santa....we will draw names this week and gifts need to be at school by Wednesday, December 15th at the latest. We originally set a price limit of $10 and kids asked if it could be as high as $15. This is an absolutely voluntary event and there is no pressure whatsoever to be involved. Please let me know if you have any concerns...... P.S. There will be no 'spelling city' this week due to Monday being a day off and Wed and Thurs nights occupied with the Christmas concert Let's take a look at this week: Monday, December 6 - NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS (teachers are at a workshop) Tuesday, December 7 - Ms. Lane away a.m., dress rehearsal in the afternoon Wednesday, December 8 - Ms. Lane away a.m., afternoon performance (really our last chance to fix things) CHRISTMAS CONCERT EVENING PERFORMANCE.....DOORS OPEN AT 6:00.....STUDENTS NEED TO BE THERE NO LATER THAN 6:10 Thursday, December 9 - SECOND CHRISTMAS CONCERT EVENING PERFORMANCE....SAME TIMES AS WEDNESDAY Friday, December 10 - We will be watching a movie this day....the long version of 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas" As always, you can reach me anytime at [email protected] |
