When work is due and not handed in or handed in incomplete, they will receive a "Late/Incomplete Form". The students have to fill them out, get them signed by their parent, and return them to me. It is my way of communicating work habits on an ongoing basis with parents.
I often get asked how I manage to teach both grades when I have a multigrade class. Here is one subject example. We have started "natural resources" in science. If your child is in grade 6 they may have covered this topic before. This does not mean that they are 'repeating' grade 5 science. When I have a multigrade class, I teach all of the science units in both grades for a shorter period of time. This allows for me to cover the learning outcomes in both grades. Our next unit will be "electricity" (a grade 6 unit).
Our schedule is now set and our gym days are Mon and Thurs. At this level we do request that children have full gym strip in order to participate. This means a different shirt, different shorts/sweats, runners, and hopefully, deoderant. We do talk about hygiene and puberty (development) this year. Our library sign out day is Tuesday.
At this point there has been a large package of notices sent home by the office (in the second week) that you have hopefully returned. In addition, a yellow skating notice went home this week. We skate on Oct 27 and then not again until March. If your child does not have skates, we have some here at the school. Please come in some time before our skating day and you can see if there are some that will fit your child. You are welcome to borrow them.
I am sorry that this is so long....I will try to be shorter next time.

On Oct 21, the Me to We kids are off to Vancouver for a celebration. Because we are missing so many between the two classes, we will do activities together that day. The Me to We kids will not be assigned missed work for the Wednesday as they are on a school trip.
Also on Oct. 21, the first in our concert series comes to Parkcrest. The Bluesberries will be performing in the afternoon.
For both math groups, there will be a test on Patterning (including recursive patterns and explicit patterns) on Monday, Oct. 27.
The chapter 2 questions for novel study (and the drawing for question 1) is due by Mon, Oct. 27.
