I know that Monday will be a hard day to keep them focused so I have some Halloween activities planned. I also know that there will be very tired kids on Tuesday morning so I have planned a low key day. We will review Halloween safety as a just a regular part of every year but just so you know, we stress safety in numbers, bringing an adult, making sure you can see and hear, and having a flashlight as the top 4. I also like to throw in staying away from darkened houses, making sure your parents go through your candy before you eat anything, and wear good footwear!
This week in L.A. we will do some Halloween writing, continue on with our novel study (we're over halfway by the end of the week), and do a speaking and listening exercise to a Halloween story on Monday. In Math we are continuing with place value, working on recognizing how to subtract and add to various spots in a big number (Eg. what number is 1 000 more then 24 867). There will be a 5 question pop quiz on Monday and then a real quiz the following Monday. We have finished with natural resources (a grade 5 unit) in Science and are now moving on to electricity (a grade 6 unit). This week will be the introduction. For Fine Arts this week we have a Remembrance Day craft that will be going up on the walls (seems amazing but Remembrance Day is next week). I know that Mrs. Erichuk will be covering Remembrance Day in Social Studies as well. For HACE we are doing some goal setting and then moving on to an anti tobacco unit. I think that about covers it for this week.
