We are finishing up with Natural Resources in Science. That means we are heading on to a grade 6 unit, Electricity. This will take us until Christmas. In L.A. we have been reading the novel "Sammy Keyes and the Skeleton Man". It's a bit of a mystery and right now we are just getting into the 'figuring out who dunnit' part. In P.E. we are carrying on with Volleyball and Cooperative Games until the gym is closed for class practices (Xmas performances). Just a (way far ahead) heads up on that.....Division 1 and Division 2 will be doing a short performance together for any parents who would like to come. At this point in time we have the gym booked for Wed, Dec. 17 for 12:50. Should only be about 20 minutes or so but as we are still at the beginning stages of planning.....this could change. update: most classes will perform in the gym in the morning (after recess) and then again in the afternoon on Thursday, Dec. 18. In Math we are finishing up with place value and then are moving on to long multiplication and long division. For Writing we are beginning a unit on how to write a paragraph. This will start with a good sentence, then a good topic sentence, then the different parts of the paragraph before finally writing paragraphs. Just a note that we are doing Spelling online. They can access it from home. Soon I will also set up an online Math program that will give them extra practice for whatever concept we are covering.
There are some things happening around the school to keep in mind. Our girls volleyball team has a couple of games left but one this week (Nov 6) is a home game. Teachers have a training day on Nov. 10 and then, of course, there is Remembrance Day on Nov. 11. Grade 6s have their immunizations coming up on Nov. 12 at 1:00. There will be a book fair in the library during the last week of November.
You can always reach me at [email protected]. Phone calls are tougher as we don't have easy access to a phone.
