This week is the first week that our student teachers begin to show their stuff. They are only here for this week and next so it is a bit of a whirlwind for them.
We are still collecting shoes for Nicaraguan kids. I have a lead on a person who went to Nicaragua and helped to distribute these shoes so I am trying to convince him to bring us some pictures and give us a better understanding of exactly how much this means to these kids. We will take any donations of gently used shoes. There is a box by the office.
Don't forget that Monday, April 15 is a professional development day. No school for kids but school for the teachers.
For L.A. we are working on the writing process. I have been transitioning them from ideas to notes to rough paragraphs to editing to good copy. It has taken a while and will take a while more I am sure. I want to make sure they have experience under their belts before sending them off to the middle school (which is rapidly approaching!). In Math, we are working on measurement using mm, cm, and m. The math groups switch back on Monday (April 8) and the kids will stay with that teacher for the rest of the year. For science, we are still looking at the human body. This week it is the circulatory system and next week, the nervous system. After that, the student teachers are gone and I take over the science again. For HACE we are looking at nutrition. This will be a short unit.
