In math we are starting 'measurment'. This is what our student teachers have been working on and they have some great lessons to share with the kids. If your child was with me for math, they are now with Mrs. Erichuk....and vice versa. In science we are doing work with 'forces and simple machines'. For language arts we have about a week or so before we start our new novel and we have some lessons to work on with reading and writing skills in the meantime. Speaking of writing, we are carrying on with Write Traits. I have introduced the word processing program in the lab (we have Open Office) and am encouraging the kids to learn different aspects of the program. The basic focus is using spellcheck, making sure capitals and punctuation are in place, and learning the different font styles and sizes. In health and career education (HACE) we are coming to the end of our 'When Words Hurt' program. It should last this week and maybe next before we move on to learning about different careers. For physical education, this is our last week with badminton. Next week track and field starts and we will be outside for Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons for a while. Note that track and field will start on Wednesday, April 18 because of the professional development day on the Monday.
Let's take a look at this week:
