This week's post is all about HACE.
I have had a few questions regarding the HACE project that the kids are currently working on. Here are the answers and I will keep answering them if they keep coming in. This project is due March 1. Kids will begin to present them on the following week. Please oh please this is NOT intended to be a family project. The whole idea is that I am marking what the student is capable of doing independently. The students came up with the criteria for the projects and we went over all of it together. The way it is being marked is with a rubric which I have embedded down below. No they won't be able to find information on every single detail that is in the criteria, that is fine. They are to try to find as much as they can. We absolutely have lots of class time to work on this so they should not be keeping everything at home. Otherwise they will be sitting in our assigned HACE blocks with nothing to do. If they are choosing to work on the computer, they can access their linux accounts from their home computer and then there is no need for flashdrives etc. Click on the link in the sidebar. Don't give up. It took one student 3 tries to make it work but it does work. Then it is a seamless transition from home to school. There is no prescribed length. They need to present the information that they gather. I have given them many different ways to do so. We have talked about taking notes, how to do advanced searches, what kinds of resources they could use in addition to the internet etc etc. Hopefully this has answered your questions but do feel free to e-mail them to me at [email protected] if you have any more....... In addition, this is NOT their whole mark in HACE for the term. We do many little assignments in class that also make up part of their mark. This project works out to approximately 30% of their overall mark for the term.
Heads up that gymnastics permission slips are coming home this week.....there is a $12 fee associated with this.....skating will be coming home soon too but there is no $ required for that one. We have extra skates in the school if anyone needs to borrow them. Just come in ahead of time and I will direct you as to where the skates are.
