Next Monday is Family Day (as I am sure you all know) and a long weekend for a lot of people. In addition, the teachers have a professional development day on the Friday so it is a 3 day week for kids. In addition, we have a dance on the Thursday (1-2:30) in celebration of Valentine's Day. Items to donate to the food bank are welcome in addition to the $2 charge to get in. Oh! I forgot that we also have skating coming up. No charge for that one (we walk over) but just to let you know way in advance so that you can try to round up skates. We go on March 4th and March 11th in the afternoons. We do have skates here at the school if you need to borrow them. Please drop by sometime near the end of Feb and see if you can find a pair that will fit your child.
In Science this week we are wrapping up Forces and Simple Machines with a lab on acceleration. Next week we start a grade 6 unit on Extreme Environments. In HACE we have begun a research project on Careers. We will do some other little exercises over the course of the next month but the project itself is due on March 1. That gives students the entire month to get it together. The criteria came from them and I have given each of them a copy of exactly what is required. In Math, we are moving on to geometry. We start with lines and 2D objects and quickly move into properties of 3D objects. Just a note that we are down to being able to use the gym once a week for a few months due to a program being offered to the primaries. It means we have to be creative with our gym on Mondays so this Monday we are going to try a little dance and see how far it takes us. Once the weather is warm (and less sloppy), we will be able to go outside to do various activities. Gym days will remain Monday and Thursday.
