This week we will start our new novel study that comes from a series called Island. This will have a different format from the first one (not question and answer). While it is important to know how to completely answer questions, it is equally important to know how to represent information in a variety of ways. This novel study is much more short answer, vocabulary, bits and pieces kinds of information. It will definitely be a change. Speaking of changes, if your child had me for math in the first term, they now will be doing math with Mrs. Erichuk. I will have the group that she had in the first term. If you would like to know how he/she is doing, please feel free to e-mail either of us (me: [email protected] her: [email protected]). For HACE we are carrying on with our unit on Addictions (alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling) that will probably take us until the end of January. Please be aware that one focus is on how different things affect the way you think (either because of substances or because of circumstances) and so 'bullying' is included in this topic as well. We start 'basketball' in P.E. this week but because there is no Monday, we have only one basketball class on Thursday. It is our Tuesday to have the extra gym class so we will do two gym periods but one will be students' choice. For Science, we start another grade 5 unit now that we finished Electricity. For the next 6 weeks we will be doing Human Body before moving on to a grade 6 topic (Extreme Environments). I think that about covers it...... Once again.....welcome back.
Let's take a look at this week.

Just a note that we have a few field trips in the next few months that will require either money or equipment or maybe both. In Feb, we are going tubing to Sun Peaks (there will be a cost for that....no equipment required other then outdoor gear...should be somewhere around $15), Also in Feb. we will be going to gymnastics twice up at TCC (again the cost should be somewhere around $10). In March, our class and our buddy class (Mrs. Trestain's class) will be going skating twice. No money needed but they will need skates and helmets.....
update:.......we are booked for Sun Peaks Tubing for Feb. 17th. No adults needed other then Mrs. Erichuk and me. We will be taking a bus so no drivers needed. Total cost with bus should be somewhere around $18 dollars......
