I had some difficulty this week sending home class dojo reports. There was a glitch in the program. They have assured me that it will be fixed by early next week so I won't reset the points to zero, I will just send home three weeks on Friday instead of the two weeks that I was planning. I did hear from one parent that they are unable to access their child's report so do let me know if you can't either, I will send that to them too. Love technology but sometimes it seems to work against me.....
This week we are continuing with basic algebra in math. It is the very beginning of what will become more complex next year. This week on Thurs or Fri we will do a review test including order of operations, integers, and basic algebra before moving on to geometry. Geometry will probably take us to Spring Break and beyond. Between grade 5 and grade 6 learning outcomes, there is a lot to cover. The gym remains closed this week. We have been doing our best to do some movement activities in the class but there isn't a lot of room and there is a lot of children so it isn't ideal. I have peeked into the gym and it is beginning to look fantastic. Well overdue for a paint job. Ask your child about the kooshball we got to throw at the SMARTboard. In L.A. we are working on our novel study, and focusing on basic writing skills (it will stay this way for a while so maybe I won't update any more until there are some changes). In HACE we are working on our career project. This week we will come up with a checklist for what needs to be included. The projects are pretty open ended as far as how they get to be presented.
Next Wed we have a videoconference with a class in Long Island, New York. They needed a class from Canada to present to and I worked with that teacher a number of years ago so she contacted me and I agreed. We have a few volunteer students who are putting together a small presentation on Kamloops to show them. I want to stress that it is not for marks and there shouldn't be any pressure. It will be fine no matter what it is.
