Here is what we're starting. In Science, the students are moving on to a new unit called 'Extreme Environments'. For HACE we are starting a unit on tobacco/drug/alcohol use. This term we are starting a new novel study and the students don't even know the book yet.....shhhh...don't tell them but it's an action/suspense novel called 'Shipwreck'. We are carrying on with our 'Reading Power' program (designed to make students more aware of their own reading strategies and how to increase the number of strategies that they use). We also are continuing with 'Write Traits' in Language Arts as we become more and more aware of what makes 'good' writing. For P.E. we are working on basketball skills for two of our three gym periods and one gym class will be a mixture of games and fitness skills.
As you are (hopefully) aware, Mrs. Erichuck and I switch classes for Social Studies and Science. Since this has been working so well, we have decided to try grouping students for math. I will be working with the students who are not as confident in their own skills and Mrs. Erichuk will be working with the more independent students. These are not necessarily permanent groups and if anyone has any concerns, please feel free to e-mail me ([email protected]). Because of this math switch, the students that are working with Mrs. Erichuk will also be participating in 'Mathletics'. A handout went home on Friday to those students in my room to explain it further. On this handout was also the username and password that they need in order to access this program. Students who will be working with me will be using a different program called 'Solaro' (more info coming on this soon).
Here's what the week looks like:
Monday, Jan. 10 - P.E., our first math switch
Tuesday, Jan. 11 - YPC, Ms. Lane away a.m.
Wednesday, Jan 12 -
Thursday, Jan 13 - P.E.
Friday, Jan. 14 - Library exchange day
Please oh please do let me know if you have any concerns or questions. You can always reach me at [email protected]
