We start swimming this week and two things always come up every year......remembering to bring their swim stuff and towel or, remembering to bring underwear to put on after swimming. Hopefully all goes well this year! Thank you to the parent who pointed out to me that the permission slip said we need parent helpers. No we do not need anyone (sorry about that, we had one permission slip for the whole school and that was on there for the primaries). Anyone is welcome to come and watch if they would like but it is absolutely not necessary. We swim Mon-Thurs from 1:30-2:00 so by the time we walk back to the school it will be dismissal time. That happens for 2 weeks. If you want your child dismissed from the pool to walk home, I must have a note in writing that says the dates they can leave from the pool (recognize that they will be home around 2:30ish ). I am at an appointment on Wednesday afternoon so there will be a TOC taking them to swimming and back.
We are trying to get through our novel in warp speed as the end of the year is rapidly approaching (I can't believe those grade 6s will be gone!). As with the novel, we are also continuing on with our Communication Skills and Write Traits for Language Arts. In Math we are working with transformations in geometry (we have done 'translations' and are moving on to 'reflections'). For P.E. the next two weeks will be swimming but it is still handy to have gym strip hanging around for lunch hour soccer games etc. In HACE we are still working on our puberty unit (will probably take us right to the end of the year). In Science we will be working on 'Diversity of Life' until the last week (only 3 science classes to go....wow!) and in Social Studies the students are still working on their country studies that will take them to the last week as well. Their brochures are due on Friday.
* I will give a block of time on Tuesday at 10:30 dedicated entirely to SS at Mrs. Erichuk's request.
Just a note that we have a Scholastic Book Fair coming up in the library on June 12-14. What a great way to get some interesting reading material for the summer! We also have Eureka Science coming to visit on June 20.......
P.S. To those grade 6 parents who have been asking.....we will have a tour of Brock for grade 6s on June 26. The grade 5 students will stay behind with Mr. Poelzer.
