Our math class switch starts Sept. 17. I want to emphasize that both groups get exactly the same curriculum, it is simply a matter of how the lesson is delivered. Mrs. Erichuk and I have split the classes into two groups and we will only do this week to review and then on to the new program. For L.A. we have started our novel (Sammy Keyes and the Skeleton Man) and we have had an introduction to one of our writing programs (Communication Skills at both a grade 5 and grade 6 level). This week we will receive another writing program (Write Traits) and start getting into all three.
Our first Science/Social Studies switch happens this week too. For those of you that don't know, I teach all the Science for both classes and Mrs. Erichuk teaches all the Social Studies. For Science we are starting by learning about 'scientific method'. I will be teaching all of the grade 5 and the grade 6 units but they will be in shorter chunks. That way I address all the topics for both. If your child was with me last year, I will be doing the same topics but different experiments. For me it is the best way to address a multi grade group.
Whew! I didn't mean to go on and on so I will stop it there and update as needed.
Let's take a look at this week:
